Not sure what to make for dinner tonight? This hearty ONE POT CHEESY SAUSAGE and PASTA meal is sure to please everyone. It’s creamy, cheesy & savory – plus it’s ready in just 35 minutes!
Why do I love this dish?
I’ve been making one pot cheesy sausage pasta since I was in high school because it’s so simple! My Dad would buy a package of smoked sausage or kielbasa once a month and it was my job to make it! I loved the leftovers – all my favorite flavors! I love the taste of kielbasa – it’s always been a treat when we’d have it! And how can you go wrong with cheesy tomatoes & pasta? You can also change it up by adding your favorite veggies!
Ingredients in cheesy sausage pasta?
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb smoked sausage- you can use turkey sausage, kielbasa, ring bologna – anything in that area!
- Feelin’ wild? You could even use Italian sausage and crumble it up – it’s raw so you’ll need to cook it a little longer before you add the onion & mushrooms
- 1/2 cup onion – I prefer Vidalia sweet yellow onions
- 1 cup mushrooms – leave out if you’re not a mushroom person (I’d add double!)
- You could also add peppers and broccoli
- 1 tbspminced garlic– I cheat and use the jar kind but you can use 2 cloves garlic
- 2 cups chicken broth – or beef stock or water if you don’t have chicken
- 1 10-14 oz can of roasted or diced tomatoes – fire roasted are the best!
- ½ cup milk – any kind of milk or heavy cream is fine – even sour cream if you’re out of milk
- 1/2 box macaroni (2 cups dry) – any dry pasta will do like penne pasta
- 1 tspsalt– toss in some oregano if you have some!
- 1 cup shredded cojack cheese – or your favorite shredded cheese like cheddar cheese, mozzarella or cheddar-jack cheese
- OPTIONAL: garnish with scallions — or if you want a little spice, sprinkle on red pepper flakes!
How do you make one pot kielbasa pasta?
- Grab your ONE pan! It should at least be a large skillet (deep dish style) – but could also be a dutch oven
- Add olive oil to deep dish skillet on medium high heat
- Add onion, sausage and mushrooms and saute until onions and mushrooms soften
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute
- Add chicken broth, tomatoes, milk, pasta and salt
- Bring the mixture to a boil, cover and turn heat to low
- Simmer for 15 minutes until pasta is tender
- There will still be some liquids left after the pasta cooks to make your sauce
- Turn off heat and stir in 1/2 cup of cheese
- Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup of cheese on top and cover for 5 minutes for cheese to mel
This pasta dish is really one of the easiest you’ll ever make! It’s the perfect comfort food and you can have dinner on the table in about 30 minutes!
